Kindergarten and Preschool

Kindergarten is a one year education program for children, the year before they attend primary school.

Latrobe City Council encourages all children to attend kindergarten as research has shown that early education helps set children up for a bright future, as they learn skills that they'll take with them throughout their life.

COVID-19 Kindergarten Update

We ask that if families are unwell or have been exposed to COVID-19 or travelled overseas, to please contact the respective services prior to attending.

Kindergarten Services

Minister for Education James Merlino has announced the Victorian Government will subsidise the costs of kindergarten fees for term two allowing parents, should they choose, to be able to send their children to sessional kindergarten.

As a result of this announcement Latrobe City Council operated kindergartens will commence term two from Tuesday 14 April 2020.

Early childhood services in Victoria, such as Latrobe City Council kindergartens, will continue to operate in line with advice from the Victoria’s Chief Health Officer.

It is important to remember if you wish to keep your child at home to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 it is okay to do so.

Your teachers at the service will be in contact with you to support your child's learning and development from home.

If you are unsure as to what your plans are as yet, and perhaps may still be taking the time to consider, please note staff at your Service will be on hand, via phone or email, from Tuesday 14th April to discuss any questions you may have.

3 Year Old Prekinder

Our 3 Year Old Prekinder program has been temporarily cancelled until further notice, due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.

Under the advice and direction of the Victorian Government, this program is not considered an essential service.  As such we have had to make the difficult decision to not operate this program during term two.

We understand that this will be met with disappointment, however to assist in flattening the curve of COVID-19 we need to minimise the number of people coming in and out or our services.

Information has been provided directly to families outlining activities to support their child’s learning and development.  Fees will not apply for term two.

Kindergarten Open Days 2021

Kindergarten open days for 2021 have been postponed.
