The Latrobe City’s commitment to improve flood management and protection of the community against flood waters is ongoing.
Flood Warning System
In conjunction with the Department of Sustainability & Environment, West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, Bureau of Meteorology, and Victoria State Emergency Service have upgraded the flood warning system for Traralgon.
Using state-of-the-art monitoring equipment the flood warning system provides accurate data to the Bureau of Meteorology, VicSES and Council. Flood advice and warnings are then developed from the information received.

Floodplain Management
The West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority is preparing a Floodplain Management Strategy to help the community better understand flood behaviour, so that communities better understand their flood risk and can take the necessary actions to minimise the risk to themselves and their property.
The strategy will help coordinate all agencies and communities to minimise flood risks. It includes a three year work plan with actions included where the responsible authority agrees to implement them. Through this process everyone will gain a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of each agency and flood risk across the region.
