Volunteering in Reserves, Gardens and Recreational Areas (Community Assets)

Latrobe City Council provides financial and administrative support to 10 Community Asset Committees.

These groups and committees aid Council in the maintenance and management of Rural Recreation Reserves, world renowned Morwell Centenary Rose Garden, Bushland Reserves, Conservation Reserves and Rail Trails.

Many local groups and committees are seeking volunteers to assist in the management and development of nominated Latrobe City Council reserves and gardens in accordance with their governing bodies terms of reference and the environment and/or operational management plans.

Latrobe City Council Community Asset Committees include:

Volunteer opportunities within these facilities include:

  • Native flora and fauna management
  • Apply horticultural skills to the maintenance of Roses
  • Control of invasive flora and fauna
  • Management and development of wetlands
  • Maintain and prepare sporting facilities for local sport
  • Administrative support (financial management, secretarial and presidential roles)

Volunteers generally assist with labouring work like digging, pruning and weed spraying, and can be taught on the job. If you have special training/licences like operating chainsaws and driving heavy plant equipment, these skill may also be used.

Training is also offered in occupational health and safety, first aid, governance and specific tasks where required (e.g. chainsaw accreditation).
