Latrobe City Council works with businesses, industry, government agencies, community organisations, Councillors and residents to identify the projects and issues that matter most to our region.
Throughout the year, Council gathers feedback through Council meetings, advisory committees, working groups, industry and community networks and engagement activities such as Have Your Say consultations
This feedback is combined with local data, strategic planning and emerging opportunities to identify the advocacy priorities that will have the greatest benefit for Latrobe City.
The issues most consistently raised by our community include:
- Improving community safety
- Reducing cost of living pressures
- Supporting local businesses and economic growth
- Creating local jobs and investment
- Improving transport and essential infrastructure
- Increasing access to free, fun and healthy recreation opportunities
Council then assesses potential advocacy projects against factors such as:
- Community benefit
- Strategic importance
- Alignment with Council's plans and government priorities
- Readiness for investment
- Opportunity to attract external funding
- Potential to deliver long-term economic and social outcomes
The priorities that meet this criteria are endorsed by Council and become the focus of our advocacy program.
While Council has varying levels of responsibility and influence across these issues, we know one of our most important roles is advocating on behalf of our community. By working with governments, businesses, community organisations and other regional partners, Council helps progress the priorities identified by the community through advocacy, the Council Plan, the Economic Development Strategy and many other policies, programs and initiatives that support Latrobe City's future.
