Stay Safe this Summer with Inflatable Pools

With temporary and inflatable swimming pools becoming an increasingly popular gift idea for Christmas, Latrobe City Council reminds the community that even these ‘toy’ pools can be a danger to small children and need to comply with safety fencing standards.

Any pool capable of being filled to a depth of 300 mm must be surrounded by a compliant safety barrier regardless of if the pool is an inflatable or permanent structure. If its depth is more than 300 mm then it needs to be registered with Council, appropriately fenced and inspected by a private building inspector/surveyor.

Council can help community members with these regulations. There is a self-assessment sheet available and you can call a member of Council’s building team on 1300 367 700 to find out more.

Latrobe City Council’s Mayor, Councillor Dale Harriman said that safety for the community was paramount.

“Safety around the water is vital for us all to have an enjoyable summer. Ensuring that your swimming pool or temporary pool complies with safety regulations is the first step.

“Summer is a great time for fun outside but make sure your swimming pool area is
well-maintained and fully compliant. There are some great inflatable or temporary pools on the market but please ensure they are being used safely for everyone to enjoy this season,” said the Mayor.
