Planning update to support Traralgon Golf Club

Media Release

Latrobe City Council has formally adopted Planning Scheme Amendment C150 at its April Council meeting. The amendment relates to land at 280A and 280B Princes Street, Traralgon, home to the Traralgon Golf Club, and aims to better reflect the current use of the land.

The amendment will rezone the site from Rural Living to a Special Use Zone, recognising its long-standing role as a golf course rather than future residential development. The proposal also includes applying an environmental audit overlay to part of the land and updates to the Traralgon Structure Plan and Framework Plans.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said the Traralgon Golf Club is a valued community facility that is not just about the golf, it contributes to community wellbeing, supports local jobs and businesses, and attracts visitors to the region.

“Some concerns have been raised in the community that the golf club may be moving or that houses may be built on the land. I would like to reassure everyone that this is finally not the case,” the Mayor said.

“The only change is that the golf club zoning has changed from a Rural Living Zone to a Special Use Zone which means residential dwellings cannot be built on the land.

“We know the Traralgon Golf Club is a beloved community facility and this amendment gives the golf club that security it needs to be certain of its future on its current site.”

The amendment was authorised by the Department of Transport and Planning in November 2025 and placed on public exhibition between 22 January and 23 February 2026.

Three submissions were received during the exhibition period, all supporting retention of the golf club at its current location, highlighting its importance to community health, recreation and the local economy.

Amendment C150 will now be lodged with the Minister for Planning for approval.
