This winter season, Latrobe Regional Gallery (LRG) presents a suite of bold, playful and thought-provoking exhibitions designed to captivate visitors of all ages.
Galleries 1 and 2 feature Anatomy Lessons, a major touring exhibition by artist Michele Beevors. Showcasing life size, hand knitted animal skeletons created over 17 years, the exhibition explores climate change, animal rights and the human responsibility to care for the natural world. Blending beauty with unease, it invites eco conscious audiences and families alike to reflect on environmental loss and our shared future.
Gallery 3 presents Gathered Threads: Lyrical Practices, featuring nine Victorian textile artists whose work emphasises sustainable practices. Using overlooked materials such as discarded fabrics, mass produced cloth and undervalued fibres, the exhibition highlights creativity rooted in reuse and renewal, appealing to crafters, textile enthusiasts and those interested in mindful making.
Strange Company: Unusual, Unseen and Overlooked Works from the Collection, exhibiting in Galleries 4 and 5, is an eclectic selection of works drawn from the LRG Collection. Ranging from playful and experimental, to bold and unsettling, the exhibition highlights rarely seen works that challenge expectations and spark curiosity.
Gallery 6 comes alive with ARCA ARCADE: Round One, where playable arcade machines are wrapped in designs inspired by te ao Māori and the distinctive styles of Aotearoa New Zealand’s eminent artists. This immersive exhibition offers a nostalgic yet contemporary experience, blending gaming culture with artistic expression.
The Lane - Kids Space transforms into Strange World, a quirky, playful and curious space inspired by Strange Company and Anatomy Lessons.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson encouraged the community to experience the gallery’s dynamic winter offering.
This Winter Season, Latrobe Regional Gallery is proud to present a very different and engaging program that offers something for everyone – from thought-provoking, contemporary exhibitions, to playful family-friendly experiences,” the Mayor said.
“It is wonderful to see such an eclectic mix of works on display, showcasing artistic talent while inviting our community to sit back and remember their lost youth, use their curiosity and marvel at what is being created from everyday materials.”
The winter exhibitions were officially launched by the Mayor at the season opening on Saturday 20 June 2026.
LRG is free and open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm.
