Latrobe City Council will host a community flag-raising ceremony and celebration in Morwell on Wednesday 27 May 2026 to mark National Reconciliation Week.
The free event will run from 11.30am to 1pm at Council Headquarters, 141 Commercial Road. After the flag-raising, attendees are invited to enjoy a community lunch featuring Indigenous food and a cultural performance from the Boorun Boys dance group.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson said the event is an opportunity for the community to come together in recognition and support of reconciliation.
“National Reconciliation Week is a time for us all to learn more about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how we can contribute to the reconciliation process,” the Mayor said.
“I invite people from all parts of our diverse community to come along to this year’s National Reconciliation Week event to mark the occasion and enjoy the festivities.”
National Reconciliation Week is held annually from 27 May to 3 June. This year’s theme is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.
National Reconciliation Week commemorates two significant milestones in reconciliation – the successful 1967 Referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
About two percent of Latrobe City’s population identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, which is double the Victorian average.
