Community feedback to shape Community Amenity Local Law

Media Release

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson has thanked community members for their valuable input following consultation on the draft Community Amenity Local Law.

As part of its 10-year review cycle, the draft Local Law aims to ensure the framework reflects current community expectations while supporting a safe, welcoming and enjoyable Latrobe City.

The Community Amenity Local Law plays a key role in guiding how Council manages everyday matters such as property upkeep, animal management, waste and recycling, certain business activities, and the use of Council land and roads. The majority of community safety issues, however, are primarily the responsibility of Victoria Police. Local laws also cannot override state and federal legislation.

Cr Gibson acknowledged the importance of community participation in shaping local laws.

“We sincerely thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback on the draft Community Amenity Local Law,” the Mayor said.
“Your input is invaluable in helping Council understand what is working well, where improvements can be made, and how we can make information clearer and easier to understand.”

With the submission period now closed, Council officers will review all feedback received. A summary of community input, along with any recommended changes, will be presented to Council for consideration later this year ahead of a final decision.
