2026 Community Satisfaction Survey results show continued improvement

Media Release Date: 12 June 2026

Latrobe City Council has received its 2026 Community Satisfaction Survey results, showing continued improvement in overall performance and positive trends across a range of service areas.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said the results demonstrated steady progress and provided important direction for future improvements.

“These results show that Council is continuing to improve across a number of key service areas, and it’s very encouraging to see strong performances in services that matter most to our community,” Cr Gibson said.

Waste management remains one of Council’s highest-performing services, scoring 74 - above state and regional city averages - and continuing to be identified by residents as the most important service Council delivers.

Libraries also ranked among the highest-rated services, alongside strong results in art centres (72) and recreational facilities (70), which continue to perform above state benchmarks and highlight key areas of strength for Council.

Notably, the survey recorded a significant improvement in how Council keeps the community informed, with an increase of eight points bringing results in line with the state average - reflecting the positive impact of recent communication efforts.

“We’re particularly pleased to see a significant improvement in how we keep our community informed. Clear and effective communication is critical, and it’s a positive sign that our efforts in this space are being recognised,” Cr Gibson said.

The survey also identified areas for continued focus, including sealed roads, parking facilities, business and community development which show improved scores when compared to the 2025 results, however remain slightly lower than state benchmarks.

In addition, consultation and engagement, community advocacy and decision making were highlighted as priority areas that have the greatest influence on overall community satisfaction.

“While the results are encouraging, we know there is more work to do,” the Mayor said.

“We are committed to listening to our community and continuing to improve in areas that will have the greatest impact - particularly in how we engage with residents and represent their needs.

“Building a strong, vibrant Latrobe City is a shared effort, and it’s by working together with our community we can make this region a standout place to live, work and thrive.”

Cr Gibson thanked residents who participated in the survey and contributed valuable feedback to help guide future planning and service delivery.

Council will review the results in detail and develop actions to strengthen performance in priority areas.

The annual Community Satisfaction Survey, conducted on behalf of the Victorian Government by independent research provider Klein, gathers feedback from 400 randomly selected residents and provides valuable insights into community perceptions of Council services and performance.
