Housing Strategy (Live Work Latrobe)

Latrobe City will provide a diverse range of housing opportunities and types to cater for its changing and growing population. Housing types will range from apartments to family homes to rural lifestyle properties, catering for differing needs, preferences and lifecycle choices. Areas of special character will be protected, while the general spaciousness of the residential areas, characteristic of regional cities and towns, will be respected. Higher density forms of housing will occur predominantly around locations with good access to activity centres and public transport.

Strategy recommendations

New Settlement Hierarchy

Recognise Traralgon - Morwell combined as the primary population centre, supported by Moe- Newborough and Churchill. The Hierarchy also acknowledges the alternative housing and lifestyle opportunities provided by smaller townships.

New Urban Design Guidelines

A related project which supports the objectives of the Housing Strategy, are the inclusion of Urban Design Guidelines within the Planning Scheme. The draft Guidelines can be viewed from the following link.

Introduction of Housing Framework Plans

A key recommendation of the Housing strategy is the introduction of Housing Framework Plans into the Latrobe Planning Schemes. Housing Framework Plans have been prepared for large and small towns across Latrobe City.
