Football fans are invited to come together in a vibrant, family-friendly celebration as Gippsland Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) hosts a free live screening of the Socceroos’ opening match of the 2026 World Cup.
Being held on Sunday, 14 June from 12noon, with game kick off at 2pm, the event is part of the Victorian Government’s World Cup live sites initiative and promises an afternoon of entertainment, community spirit and football fever.
Festivities will include a wide range of activities for all ages.
Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Sharon Gibson said she was delighted to host this community event at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre (GPAC).
“Come along with your family and friends to cheer on the Aussies as they take on Türkiye (Turkey) in their opening match of the World Cup,” Cr Gibson said.
“Pack a chair or picnic rug and settle in for a fun-filled day featuring face painting, giant games, live music, merchandise giveaways, food trucks and more. So come on down.”
There is no need to register or book tickets - just go along, take your own seating and find a spot in GPAC’s Forecourt in front of the big screen.
Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase, and you’re welcome to take your own picnic (no alcohol permitted).
World Cup live sites will also be hosted across Victoria, including Federation Square, AAMI Park, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Shepparton.
