Latrobe City Council has completed a major upgrade to the Maryvale Reserve pavilion and sporting facilities, delivering contemporary, inclusive infrastructure that will support local sport and community participation for years to come.
The project was delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government, with a combined investment of almost $1.4 million, including $920,000 through the government’s Council Support Package and $470,000 from Latrobe City Council.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson said the upgrades would provide lasting benefits for current and future generations of local sporting participants.
“This is a wonderful project for our community. The new modern and accessible facilities will not only support participation in sport and healthy lifestyles, but they will also provide terrific spaces for our community to come together and socialise,” Cr Gibson said.
“Maryvale Reserve is home to Latrobe Cricket Club and Latrobe Valley Umpires Association, and it’s great to see the strong growth they’ve both experienced in recent years, particularly in junior and female participation. These upgrades will no doubt support that growth well into the future.”
Works included new public toilets and umpire change rooms, refurbished player amenities, upgrades to the social space, accessible facilities, additional storage, and security and sewer improvements. The reserve also benefited from oval surface upgrades, drainage and irrigation improvements, and new footpath connections.
Cr Gibson acknowledged the local sporting community’s patience and commitment throughout the project.
“The Latrobe Valley Umpires Association and Latrobe Cricket Club have waited a long time for these upgrades, and it’s fantastic to see them now have facilities that reflect the important contribution they each make to our community,” she said.
“These improvements create a more inclusive and accessible environment for players, officials, volunteers, families and supporters, while improving year-round use of the reserve.”
Latrobe City Council thanked the Victorian Government, Regional Development Victoria, project partners, contractors, Council staff, sporting organisations and volunteers for their contribution to the project.
