Enrolments for Latrobe City Council’s three and four-year-old kindergarten programs for the 2027 school year will open on 1 May and close on Tuesday 30 June 2026.
Both three and four-year-old kindergarten will be offered for 15 hours per week. Changes this year saw a significant increase to three-year-old kindergarten from the previously available five hours, giving children more time to develop key skills in a supportive, play-based environment. Some four-year-olds may meet the criteria to be eligible for additional hours under the Pre-Prep program.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson encourages local families to enrol in a Latrobe City Council kindergarten.
“Kindergarten helps children build the foundations they need for their lifelong learning journey. It’s an opportunity for them to learn and socialise while preparing for primary school,” the Mayor said.
With 25 Council-run kindergartens across Latrobe City, families are encouraged to list their preferences. Placement availability may depend on the number of applications received.
Children who turn three or four-years-old on or before 30 April 2027 are eligible to enrol. Kinder is free for all families as part of the state government Best Start, Best Life reforms, which aims to increase access to quality early childhood education and care for all Victorian children.
“With families now able to access 15 hours of free kindergarten for their three and four-year-olds, it allows them more flexibility and support for their child’s early learning,” the Mayor said.
“Latrobe City’s kindergartens are family-focused – providing benefits not only for the children but also a community for the family to connect with.”
