Council wrap up: Council meeting 28 September 2026

2027 - 2031 Australian Inline Hockey Club Championships Major Events Funding

The Australian Inline Hockey Club Championships will stay in Moe for another five years.

Held annually at Stadium 34 over the Easter long weekend, the event brings hundreds of players, officials and visitors to the region, delivering an estimated $3 million economic boost each year.

Council has approved funding of $20,000 per year from 2027 to 2031 to support the championships being held in Latrobe City.

Intention to sell surplus land sites

Council will seek community feedback on the future of several Council-owned properties that are no longer required for Council operations.

The sites have been identified through a review of Council’s property portfolio, with community input to help understand local views and inform possible future options. The sites identified are:

  • 18-22 Graduate Place, Traralgon
  • 32 Junier Street, Morwell
  • 14 Wattletree Crescent, Morwell
  • Hawker Street Reserve (North Parcel), Moe
  • 11-13 Bennett Court, Traralgon
  • 26 Charles Street, Traralgon

Council will consider all feedback received before determining the next steps for each site. Community members will soon be able to provide feedback through Have Your Say Latrobe City.

Moe Gardens Caravan Park Compliance Audit

Following previous community consultation and an independent audit, Council has endorsed a process to determine the next steps for the future of Moe Gardens Caravan Park.

Council will now seek further community feedback before beginning a process to identify a new long-term operator.

New Art in Public Space Policy

Council endorsed a new Art in Public Space Policy to guide how public art is planned, managed and maintained across Latrobe City.

The policy sets out a clear framework for public art in the community and will support the development of a register of existing public artworks across the municipality. Any future public art projects or funding will be considered through Council's annual budget process.

Review of recreation projects priority list

Council has updated its Recreation Needs Assessment, which helps identify and prioritise future sporting and recreation facility projects across Latrobe City.

The updated priority list will help guide future funding applications and investment in recreation infrastructure, with projects to be delivered as funding becomes available. Gaskin Park remains Council's priority pavilion project, with the proposed pavilion at Northern Reserve in Newborough identified as the next priority.

The priority recreation projects can be found in the September Council meeting agenda, item 9.4: www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/Council/Our_Council/Minutes_and_Agendas

End of Year Surplus

Council had a cash surplus of $6.447 million for the 2025/26 financial year and will allocate these funds to reserves and priority projects across Latrobe City.

This includes investment in infrastructure, city presentation, CBD activation, community grants, accessibility works, customer service improvements, Gaskin Park project, the Animal Management Facility and the Community Connectors Program (subject to State Government matching funding).

Council also allocated proceeds from the sale of Hazelwood House to the Infrastructure Projects Reserve and Gaskin Park project, recognising both Council and community contributions.
