South East Melbourne Phoenix NBL major event funding 

Latrobe City Council has endorsed an agreement with South East Melbourne Phoenix to bring National Basketball League (NBL) action back to Gippsland for the next two seasons, continuing a successful partnership that has delivered elite sport and significant economic benefits to the region. 

Council has approved funding for two South East Melbourne Phoenix in-season matches to be hosted in Latrobe City during the 2026/27 and 2027/28 NBL seasons. 

The agreement builds on a strong partnership between Latrobe City Council, the NBL and the South East Melbourne Phoenix, with the region having hosted six Phoenix matches over the past five years. 

Moe Activity Centre Plan 

Council has endorsed the draft Moe Activity Centre Plan, setting a long-term vision for the future growth and development of Moe’s town centre. 

The draft plan, endorsed at Council’s July meeting, provides direction for land use, development, transport, public spaces and economic activity in the Moe Central Business District. Once finalised, it will help inform Planning Scheme Amendment C155. 

The plan is the first of Latrobe City’s four major town activity centre plans to be reviewed through Council’s Strategic Planning Review Program and will update the 2007 Moe Activity Centre Plan. 

The plan will soon be available for community consultation on Council’s Have Your Say engagement platform. 

Draft Nature Plan open for community consultation 

Council will soon invite community feedback on the draft Nature Plan, which will guide the protection and enhancement of biodiversity across the municipality over the next 10 years. 

One of the key aims of the plan is to set priorities for managing 210 hectares of bushland reserves and waterways, as well as a further 468 hectares of Council-managed land.   

The plan will be available for community feedback on Council’s Have Your Say engagement platform from Monday 3 August.
