Local History

Our Library contains all kinds of information about the towns, districts and families of Latrobe City, including information on the history, culture, environment, and the development of the region. There is also information to assist you in researching your family history. 

The local history collection includes books, newspapers and magazines, microfiche, microfilm, CDRoms, pamphlets, maps. Each Latrobe Library maintains a reference collection and a loan collection. These items can be located by search the Local History catalogue. You can also access many online resources which provide information about our local history.

The Moe library local history collection includes a few additional features. There is special collection of non-fiction and fiction books from the Ex-Yallourn library and an extensive collection of microfilm that contains a range of information including – old Gippsland newspapers, journals, births, deaths and marriages indexes.  There is also a scanner where old photos, negatives and slides can be transferred to a digital format.
