4 Year Old Preschool

Preschool is a one year education program for children, the year before they attend primary school. All children are encouraged to enrol into the preschool program and develop to their full potential through the early childhood teacher's careful planning of the preschool program. Latrobe City preschool services are partially funded by the State and Federal governments and staffed by qualified early childhood teachers. Children attend 15 hours of preschool per week.

Benefits of preschool

  • Build confidence and social skills
  • Provide an opportunity for your child to develop in a safe environment.
  • Increase your child’s knowledge and experiences
  • Activities planned to respond to your child’s own interests
  • Promote learning through play

Is my child eligible?

To be eligible for preschool, children must be four (4) years of age before 30 April, in the year of attendance.

Some children are also eligible to attend under the Early Start program.

Priority of access

We support the Department of Education and Training (DET) policy direction that prioritises the inclusion of children with additional needs, children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, Asylum seeker and refugee families with an appropriate Visa and children known to Child Protection. Families that demonstrate that they have a child in one of these categories will be allocated to a kindergarten program as a high priority

No Jab No Play

The Victorian Government’s new 'No Jab, No Play' immunisation legislation came into effect on 1 January 2016.

If you are enrolling your child in early childhood education and care services you now need to ensure they are up to date with their vaccinations or have an approved exemption. This includes long day care, kindergarten, occasional care and family day care.
