Latrobe City Council resolved from 1 May 2007 all cats and dogs being registered for the first time must be desexed unless exempt (see Compulsory Desexing below).
If you are applying to release an unregistered dog or cat from the pound you must complete a Pound Release and Registration Application:
Before we release an unregistered animal it must be microchipped and you must purchase a desexing voucher. You will also need to pay any other applicable pound release fees. You will be given a Notice to Comply to produce proof from the veterinary service that the animal has been desexed or is exempt. This proof must be produced within 28 days of the date of release.
After release, you should be aware that there may be infringements issued for breaches against the Domestic Animal Act, for example, failure to register and dog at large.
