Hazelwood Pondage

The Hazelwood Pondage Caravan Park is closed due to the lowering of the water levels of the pondage by ENGIE, in response to the dam safety concerns reported by ENGIE in early 2018. The reduction in water levels has resulted in the essential fire services systems to the caravan park, no longer being guaranteed, as the current system relies on water directly from the pondage.

Latrobe City Council’s primary concern is operating safe facilities and as the essential fire services cannot be guaranteed, it has been forced to close the Caravan Park.  The closure of the caravan park occurred 14 January but will become final on 31 March 2019 when site holders have removed their belongings, as at this time the water level will be reduced to a point that the system will no longer be able to operate.

Lake Narracan

Lake Narracan is a popular water activities destination.  A surface area spanning nearly 300ha makes it ideal for power boating, waterskiing, jet skiing, sail boarding and sailing.  It is also a great place for swimming, family picnics and walking.

The public boat ramp at Lake Narracan for launching vessels is located on South Shore Road, Newborough.

For current information on water levels or boating restrictions, please contact the caretaker of the caravan park on (03) 5135 8508 or visit the Southern Rural Water website or contact Latrobe City Council 1300 367 700 for further details.
