Fresh, simple and all the information you need about Council and our community in one place, that’s how Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Dan Clancey describes the Council’s new website.
Replacing the outdated website platform, which was over eight years old and no longer compliant with the ever changing security levels required for public interfacing websites and best practice, the new site is a modern look for Council’s online presence.
Responsive in design the new website at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au puts the user first. Cr Clancey said he hopes the changes are well received by users.
“With the click of a button, members of the community can now easily find information that is relevant to them as a ratepayer. The new website will enable residents and visitors to quickly access information, make a request and provide us with feedback easier than ever”.
“From the front page that offers a clean look, enhancing the user experience, the simplistic design provides quick links to connect the user more efficiently to the area they need. The team has designed a website utilising feedback and suggested improvements made by the community and importantly is an accessible platform for all users.
“One of the key changes is the new site is simple to navigate and accessible between mobile devices, tablets and desktop. It provides a more intuitive and efficient experience with improved search functionality that allows the user to find the information that they require quickly ensuring an optimal user experience.”
Addressing feedback which indicated that the old site was difficult to navigate and find the information people were looking for the new site will provide an improved way of sharing current news, events and gives residents, business owners and visitors quick and easy access to services and information they need to live, enjoy and grow Gippsland’s regional city.
The launch of the new website is a culmination of a development process that also included a review of online content and functions. The website has expanded capabilities for users to submit feedback and connect with Council and will also provide emergency notices and road closure notices.
Several new features of the website will be launched in the coming weeks which will include the addition of online payment functionality.
“We wanted to get this site up and running as soon as possible, that means there will be a few bits and pieces which need a tweak over the coming weeks and months,” Cr Clancey said.
“The team will be updating this website on a continuous basis and will draw on customer feedback and experiences to do this. If you have a suggestion for further improvements you can let us know by submitting your feedback via the website.”
In developing the new website Council has made use of the GovCMS Software which has been developed by the Australian Government specifically for use by government departments and agencies. Provided by government for government, the platform uses best practice at a reasonable cost and is utilised by the Department of Premier and Cabinet along with other Victorian local councils.
