Effective Communication: From the Stage to Everyday Life

Would you like to improve your public presentation and personal communication skills, through storytelling and body language rather than lectures and PowerPoints?

Saturday 8 June, 2024 | 10am | Town Hall Theatre 

Led by Professor Rick Chew, Director of the Arts Academy, Federation University and Anthony Crowley, Education & Community Programmer, Performing Arts GPAC, participants will gain valuable insight and practical knowledge of how to engage an audience in their public presentations and formal/informal one-to-one scenarios.

Together, Rick and Ant will use the study of drama and performance to build understanding of the nature of presence and the fundamentals of interpersonal communication and presentation skills for non-actors. Through creative and collaborative games and exercises, workshop participants will gain greater awareness of how they move and speak and the effect that a deliberate approach to physical and vocal gesture can have on and off the stage.

Professor Richard Chew is Director of the Arts Academy at Federation University Australia. He studied at the International Opera School, Royal College of Music in London and sang principal baritone roles with Royal Shakespeare Company, English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Opera North, London Symphony Orchestra, and many others.

Ant Crowley is a multi-award-winning theatre-maker. His body of work includes musicals, opera, cabaret, plays and devised theatre. He is the recipient of several awards including the Malcolm Robertson Prize for Drama, The New York - New Dramatists Award, The Pratt Prize and The Victorian Premiers Literary Award for Best Music Theatre Script.
