Volunteering Programs (Aged Care)

Volunteering offers opportunities for you to become involved in your community, meet other people and make a positive contribution. You do not need experience or qualifications just a genuine desire to help people take part in community life. You can make an enormous difference in the lives of people in our community.

Changes by the Australian (Commonwealth) Government to the way that Aged Care services are planned and delivered, will see Council cease delivering services under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACCPYP - Under 65) and Support for Carers program from 30 June 2022.

This includes the delivery of volunteer programs associated with these services.

Social Support Groups

Social Support Group provides regular outings, recreational activities and social interaction for people with special needs, or who are isolated, frail or lonely.

Volunteers can assist with:

  • preparing meals and cleaning up
  • driving clients to and from venues
  • interacting with clients
  • supporting staff with activities

Supporting Carers Program

The Supporting Carers Program supports elderly carers aged 65 years or older not accessing significant formal supports. The program assist carers to remain supported, informed and socially connected whilst in the role of a carer. 

Volunteers can assist with:

  • Supporting staff during activities
  • Driving carers and recipients to activities
  • Interacting with carers and their recipients

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels program delivers a nutritious meal to people who are unable to cook for themselves. Meals are delivered Monday to Friday in Traralgon and Morwell. Chilled meals are delivered to Churchill and Budgeree on Tuesdays, and Yallourn North on Wednesdays. A volunteer can be rostered on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.

Volunteers can be involved as a driver or by taking the meals from the car to the house.
