Latrobe City's Business Development Unit (BDU) provides a range of business assistance and regional advocacy services to support the balanced growth Latrobe City and the wider Gippsland area.
Our services include:

Support for expansion and retention of existing enterprises in the Latrobe City

Attraction of inbound major investment

Facilitation of improvements to regional infrastructure services such as transport and utilities

Leveraging Government funding for local projects and built improvements

Export market development

Marketing the City as Gippsland's regional capital centre

Preparation of quality submissions highlighting local needs when requested by the Commonwealth, Victorian Government and industry associations
Support for investment attraction and existing business expansion:

Initial assessment of need and referral to other appropriate service provider

Assistance with the co-ordination of Council and other agency regulatory permits and approval processes

Provision of development site information

Advice about State and Commonwealth Government industry assistance
2012 Gippsland Major Projects and Opportunities Summit
The fourth Gippsland Major Projects and Opportunities Summit was held on 14 February 2012. The event was a huge success with over 250 attending the Summit. Presentations from Advance TAFE, Independence Group, Department of Defence, Thiess, GippsAero, ExxonMobil and Department of Primary Industries featured at the Summit, showcasing the major developments proposed for Gippsland over the next 18 months.
The Carbon Tax for SMEs
To help businesses understand and adjust to the new carbon tax laws, the Victorian Chamber of Commence and Industry will be holding a number of briefing sessions for local businesses to help deal with the commercial implications of the carbon tax.

Gippsland Logistics Precinct
Latrobe City Council has had a significant long term interest and involvement in facilitating an open access intermodal freight terminal to meet the needs of our region. The development of the Gippsland Logistics Precinct (GLP) will establish a centre for the efficient and cost effective movement of freight to and from the Gippsland region.

Latrobe City Council – Member of the Coal Councils of Australia
Latrobe City Council is a founding member of the Coal Councils of Australia. Established in 2009, the Alliance seeks to represent the interests of communities likely to be impacted by carbon constraining legislation.
Key objectives of the Alliance are to engage in dialogue with the Federal Government regarding how impacted communities will transition effectively to a low carbon economy, and assistance in the completion of a Social Impact Analysis to determine appropriate transitional arrangements for each impacted region.
