About

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, “people aged 15-64 years with a mental or behavioural condition were more likely to be unemployed than people without a mental or behavioural condition (5.6% compared with 3.5% respectively). Almost one in three (32.2%) people aged 15-64 years with a mental or behavioural condition were not in the labour force, almost double the rate of those without a mental or behavioural condition (17.0%).” The two way link between unemployment and mental health is that unemployment in the community can lead to poor mental health, and people with poor mental health are more vulnerable to not engage in work, Mental Health Foundation Australia would like to address this gap and raise awareness about being a more inclusive workspace through organizing a forum in the Eastern Region of Victoria. Unemployment and Mental Health needs to be brought to light owing to the rising rates of people seeking help with employment and also have a mental health condition.
