Latrobe City Council operates four transfer stations which are located at Morwell, Moe, Traralgon and Yinnar South. These facilities accept a variety of excess waste material in small or large quantities, including domestic hard waste, household items, demolition and scrap timber, fence palings, motor oil and batteries, tyres, earth, soil and rubble. Transfer station fees. They also accept all household recyclable items, refrigerators, stoves, heaters and hot water systems at no charge.
On 2 July 2011, Latrobe Waste & Recycling Pty Ltd commenced the management and operation of all four Transfer Stations.
A recycled goods shop is now in operation at the Morwell Transfer Station.

Latrobe City Council and Sustainability Victoria have established a permanent ‘Detox Your Home’ site at the Morwell Transfer Station. This permanent site allows residents to drop off some of the common (and less toxic) household chemicals.
The ‘Detox Your Home’ collection point is open between 8am and 2pm, Monday to Friday and 9am and 2pm, Saturday and Sunday.
Only paint, oil, car and household batteries, compact florescent lamps, florescent tubes and barbeque gas bottles are accepted at this site. All other household chemicals such as chlorine and pool chemicals, solvents, poisons, pesticides and herbicides should be taken to the next Sustainability Victoria ‘Detox Your Home Mobile Collection’. Latrobe City Council has opened its landfill for disposal of waste that cannot be recycled. The landfill at Hyland Highway, Loy Yang accepts waste from waste transport companies and is not open to the public. All enquiries regarding landfill should be directed to the Landfill Services Co-ordinator on 1300 367 700.
Small quantities of domestic asbestos may be deposited at Hyland Highway Landfill on Monday - Friday, 9am - 12pm by prior arrangement and with 48 hours notice. Latrobe City will accept domestic quantities of asbestos, correctly wrapped in black plastic as per the guidelines, in 20 kg packages, at a fee of $30 per package by appointment at its landfill. Residents must pay this fee at a Latrobe City Service Centre (Moe, Morwell, Traralgon & Churchill) and produce the receipt at the gatehouse prior to disposal. Payment will not be accepted at the gatehouse. Asbestos not correctly wrapped in manageable sized packages (20 kg or less) will not be accepted.
The asbestos must be double wrapped with thick, building grade plastic sheeting and securely taped. Commercial quantities of asbestos will not be accepted.
Persons off loading asbestos must repair damaged or ruptured wrapping immediately to the satisfaction of the Landfill operator. No asbestos waste shall be accepted unless the above conditions are fulfilled. Please phone 0400506474 to make an appointment.

Dead farm animals are not accepted at the Hyland Highway Landfill.
