Sustainability and Environment

Under Latrobe 2021 The Vision for Latrobe Valley the community outcome for sustainability and environment reads as follows: to responsibly manage the natural environment, to ensure its sustainability and diversity for the community.

The role of the Strategic Environment team is to develop policies, strategies and actions to secure the sustainability of basic ecological services - air, water, soil, biodiversity - and land uses in Latrobe City and the minimization of adverse environmental impacts.

Recently a Natural Environment Sustainability Strategy has been developed which consolidates and rationalises Latrobe City's previous approaches to the natural environment into one document. This new strategy represents Council's position on the natural environment and how Council intends to implement the natural environment sustainability outcome in Latrobe 2021. It provides a single, streamlined policy and strategy position that includes priority objectives. Detailed implementation plans will be developed for these priority objectives.
