Community Safety Introduction

The Community Safety Program grew out of a community based initiative "Latrobe Valley Better Health' initiated during the 1990's.

The Community Development team is responsible for a range of activities associated with promoting safety in Latrobe City, in partnership with the Community and the many agencies that have an investment in the safety and wellbeing of our Community.

Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of effective strategies designed to minimise hazards and conditions, which lead to harm, or fear of harm, for all citizens and visitors.

 

This includes:

  • Accreditation as a World Health Organisation 'Safe Community' (February 1996, 2006).
  • A focus on Community Safety Promotion incorporating all injury prevention, safe and secure environments, crime and violence prevention.
  • Collaborates and develops partnerships with the whole community and other agencies to promote prevention.

  • Local Alcohol Accords (alcohol and public place violence prevention)
  • Latrobe Community Safety Committee (with Victoria Police and major agencies - meets bi-monthly)
  • Walking School Bus (with VicHealth and Local Primary Schools)
  • Neighbourhood Renewal/Alliance
  • Annual Event - Community Safety Forum (May)
