Works Permits

Service authorities, residents, contractors, developers and builders etc are required to obtain works permits for works to be undertaken within road reserves and parks including:
  • construction and widening of driveways;
  • connection of property drains to stormwater drainage system or kerb and channel;
  • installation of utility services such as water, sewerage, electricity, gas and telecommunications;
  • any other excavation works.

Works permits can be obtained from Latrobe City's offices at Traralgon, Morwell or Moe or by making written requests.

The objectives of the works permit process are:

  • Protection of Latrobe City's assets;
  • Protection of service authorities' assets;
  • To ensure that works within road reserves and parks are carried out in accordance with Latrobe City standards;
  • To ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The following situations also require permits to be issued by Council prior to works commencing:

Vehicle Crossings

The construction or alteration of any vehicle crossing in the Latrobe City requires a permit to be obtained prior to commencement of work. In the following cases written council approval must also be obtained:

  • A vehicle crossing already exists for the property and the new crossing would be an additional point of access. (If the existing crossing is to become redundant, then it must be removed and the kerb reinstated at the permit holder's cost)
  • The vehicle crossing will be wider than 3 metres, this includes widening an existing vehicle crossing beyond 3 metres.
