Objection to Valuation

If you do not agree with any or all of the Valuation shown on your notice, you have the right to OBJECT by completing the appropriate form which is available from the Property & Rates team.   To contact the Property & Rates team please phone 1300 367 700.

The objection MUST be lodged within TWO MONTHS of the date of service on your rate notice.

Objecting to a Valuation

You may object to a valuation. The objection can be made in relation to the value of a property or on other grounds specified in the Valuation of Land Act.

In general, an objection must be made within two months of the date of issue shown on the rate notice. An objection should be lodged on the prescribed form, provided by the Property & Rates team.

Before seeking an objection form you are encouraged to discuss and, if possible, resolve your valuation questions by contacting the Coordinator Property & Rating Services.

After receiving an objection, a valuer must discuss the matter with the objector, then make his/her decision within two months of the objection. If not satisfied with the decision, the objector may appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), or to the Supreme Court.

If you object to a valuation, you still must pay rates by the due date. Failure to pay rates by the required date generally results in interest being imposed.
