Latrobe City is responsible for maintaining 657km of concrete, brick, gravel and asphalt footpaths in streets and parks. There are also approximately 787km of kerb that Council maintains.
Council carries out condition assessments of the entire street footpath network every year in high risk areas, every two (2) years in medium risk areas and every three (3) years in low risk areas as defined in the Latrobe City Council Road Management Plan. These assessments assist in developing future Routine Maintenance Programs.
Routine & emergency maintenance is carried out on the footpath network, with the exception of vehicle crossings. (The footpath or kerb sections adjacent to a property's driveway, or point of access, form part of the vehicle crossing and as such are the responsibility of the property owner to maintain).
Types of footpath maintenance include:
Kerb maintenance consists of replacing concrete sections of kerb that are broken or misaligned to the extent that they are no longer allowing water to flow or penetrate into the road pavement materials. Council carries out Routine Kerb Replacement as part of road resealing preparations.
Please contact Council if you wish to make a report of hazardous footpath or kerb. To help our officers provide efficient maintenance it is important that the information you provide regarding the type and location of the hazard is as detailed as possible.
