Family Day Care

Latrobe City Family Day Care is a Commonwealth funded program. This service is managed and operated by the Latrobe City, with independent care providers, who are closely monitored and supported by the Co-ordination Unit.

Family Day Care provides a quality home-based childcare services in a care provider's own home.

Family Day Care provides:

Care for children 0-12 years

Flexibility of hours (care providers available 24 hours a day, including weekends).

Provision of care for children with additional needs.
Extensive equipment and toy library to resource care providers.
Unannounced home visits by staff to monitor quality of care.
Pick up/drop off to local schools and preschools.
Care for small groups of children.
FDC playgroups.
Developmental/age appropriate activities.
Childcare benefit available to families.

Care providers are chosen from an intensive selection process, which includes:

Criminal records clearance.
Home safety check.
Current first aid certificate.

Licensing:

All care providers are licensed. These licenses specify:

The number of children a carer can look after.
Carer requirements.
Health and safety requirements.

National Standards:

The Commonwealth Government and State Government jointly developed Australia's National Standard for Family Day Care.
These standards set out the minimum requirements that will provide a safe, nurturing and developmental childcare environment. Latrobe City Family Day Care has adopted these standards.

Quality Assurance:

The National Family Day Care Quality Assurance system ensures that the Latrobe City Family Day Care service meets quality standards beyond the minimum requirements.
