The Community Development Team forms an integral part of Council’s commitment to enhancing the quality of resident's lives by encouraging positive interrelation between the elements of safety, health, education, wellbeing, accessibility and a sense of place.
Caring for our community by promoting equity, self determination and optimism.
• Assuming capacity - building capacity, confidence, competency, resilience and sustainability. • Respecting people and valuing diversity – building a sense of pride and enabling people to have a voice. • Acknowledging community aspirations – capturing, advocating and facilitating. • Ensuring decisions are made by those who are most affected or closest to those who are most affected - subsidiarity. • Looking for mutual benefits - reciprocity. • Empowering, developing and influencing community leaders. • Being inclusive in all that we do. • Developing purposeful relationships - building partnerships and circles of influence. • Strengthening community identity and connectivity. • Maximising use of established community resources.
The process of community development taps into the human wealth within the municipality, assisting groups to seek solutions to a range of issues in a manner that is driven by and acceptable to them. The Community Development Team provides a link to people in the form of information, resources, support, advice, advocacy and encourages community involvement and action through local networks.
