Linking Latrobe Transport Connections Program

The Linking Latrobe Transport Connections Program is a joint initiative Latrobe City Council, Department of Infrastructure, Department of Planning and Community Development, Department of Human Services and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.  Transport is consistently rated by rural and regional communities as one of the most significant barriers to accessing services, employment and social networks.

The Linking Latrobe Transport Connections Program involves partnerships between members of the community, including state and local government, the community and voluntary transport sector, existing community or health networks and public and private transport providers. The Program aim is to develop a range of small scale localised transport initiatives utilising existing transport assets and services, such as taxis, school buses, community buses and volunteers. This could include extensions to existing public transport services or the implementation of a new trial service.

More about the State wide rollout of the Transport Connections Program can be found at www.dvc.vic.gov.au/transport

Within Latrobe City, the following priority issues and areas have been identified as requiring strategies to address specific transport needs:

  • Access to education and training
  • Access to health services
  • Rural isolation
  • Social isolation
  • Assistance for new arrivals

In Latrobe City, a particular emphasis is being placed on the seven small townships and their surrounding districts, plus Churchill.   These are: Yallourn North, Tyers, Glengarry, Toongabbie, Traralgon South, Boolarra and Yinnar.
