Churchill Intergenerational Community Hub

A Working Group consisting of representatives of Council, the State Government, local agencies and residents of Churchill and district has been established to work up a proposal for an Intergenerational Community Hub in Churchill. The Community Hub would service Churchill and surrounding communities.

The proposal has emerged as a result of a need to relocate the Churchill Neighbourhood Centre from the Leisure Centre, into a more appropriate facility designed to meet the needs of the community and the range of programs it wishes to offer into the future. It is also felt that this will provide an opportunity to expand and improve the level and quality of infrastructure in the town and to enhance community life through providing a venue that brings agencies, organisations, individuals and members of the community together.

What is it?

It is a series of conjoined buildings on a new central site where a wide range of community services and activities can be co-located. A place where the community can come together to have many of their needs met. It may include a neighbourhood learning centre, a senior citizens centre, a youth centre, meeting rooms, a childcare centre, a public library and much more.

An initial community meeting was held on Tuesday, 30 November 2004 to gauge community opinion and to enable ideas, issues and comments to be raised for consideration in further developing the proposal. This was a very positive meeting and the feedback invaluable. A Feedback Sheet has been developed and was distributed at the Community Meeting for those present to take back to their groups and to chat with other residents about the concept.
