The Building Service Team performs an important statutory role within the municipality to ensure that our administration and enforcement responsibilities of the Building Act and Regulations are fulfilled. Councils Municipal Building Surveyor undertakes these responsibilities by exercising various prescribed and delegated statutory powers that apply to proposed and existing buildings.
The responsibilities of the Municipal Building Surveyor include dealing with outstanding permits, investigation of breaches to building legislation, assessing applications as a reporting authority, investigation of unsafe or unsuitable buildings and providing an advice service.
Council has decided not to compete with the private sector in issuing building permits, therefore Latrobe City is currently providing primarily a statutory building control function. Building permit applications can be lodged with any privately operating building surveyor.
