Construction works

Planning and construction of the revitalised Churchill Town Centre is progressing. Projects under way or imminent are the following:

  • Philip Parade is being reconstructed to slow traffic around the Churchill Community Hub, underground the power lines, allow for a new plaza area near the town hall and improve parking, and commence the realignment of Georgina Place. Construction is expected to be completed early in 2012, although the final seal on the new streets will take place in mid-2012.
  • Part of the northern car park will be reconstructed, to be carried out in two stages. The first stage has been completed, and involved establishing the new levels of the car park, with the current car parking format. The second stage will reconstruct the car park in accordance with the town centre plan. Part of these works will include completion of the realignment of Georgina Place.
  • A small town centre plaza will be constructed north of the extended West Place shopping centre, near the corner of Georgina Place and Marina Drive.
  • The plaza area near the town hall will be built, including landscaping and new footpaths. This is expected to commence in mid-2012.
  • Balfour Place between the Churchill Hotel and the southern car park will be reconstructed, scheduled for mid-2012.
