Volunteering offers opportunities for you to become involved in your community, meet other people and make a positive contribution. Latrobe City Council requires volunteers for its Meals on Wheels and Social Support Group programs. These programs are aimed at the frail aged and younger people with disabilities.
You do not need experience or qualifications just a genuine desire to help people take part in community life. You can make an enormous difference in the lives of people in our Community.
Social Support Groups
Social Support Group provides regular outings, recreational activities and social interaction for those who are isolated and lonely. Centres are located at Traralgon and Yallourn North.
Attendance includes a nutritious two course lunch, morning and afternoon tea. If required, transport is provided to and from the venue.
Volunteers can assist in the kitchen with preparing meals and cleaning up, interacting with clients and supporting staff with the day’s activities as well as assisting with the transporting of clients on the bus.
Meals on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels program provides a nutritious and appetizing meal delivered straight to the clients home by the volunteer. Volunteers can be involved as a ‘driver’ or as a ‘jockey’ taking the meals from house to house. A volunteer can be rostered on as little as once a month or more often as negotiated.
We Care Program
We Care is a visiting program which is aimed at establishing friendships between trained volunteers and isolated, frail aged people who live in their own home. The aim of the program endeavours to bring two people together who have similar interests, with the prospect of becoming mutual friends, together the volunteer and participant organise their visits. These visits may just be a weekly or monthly cuppa and chat, a weekly shopping trip or an afternoon at the movies.
Volunteers with the We Care program provide companionship; encourage interest and participation of the Client in the local community.
