Garden Competition Conditions of Entry

  1. Entry to the Latrobe City Garden Competition is free, and applicants should choose the category they feel best suits their garden. All gardens must be located with the Latrobe City municipality.

  2. By entering the Latrobe City Garden Competition entrants agree to abide by the Conditions of Entry which include:

    • Names, address area and photographs of the entrant/s and their gardens being used for associated promotion and publicity.
  3. Applicants may choose to opt in to agree to;
    • The publishing of their address so that members of the public may view the garden from the street. (optional)
    •  Having their contact details on a register so that other entrants can arrange a mutually convenient time to view their garden (optional)
  4. Final judging will be carried out by a panel of judges appointed by Latrobe City Council.

  5. Competition timelines:
    • Entries open Monday 14 August 2017
    • Entries close Sunday 15 October 2017
    • Judging occurs Monday 23 October – Friday 3 November 2017
  6. All prizes are awarded at the discretion of the judging panel, whose decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  7. At the judges’ discretion, entries may be judged in categories other than the one entered.
  8. All entrants are automatically in the running for the Mayor’s Award for the best overall garden, a Mayor’s Encouragement Award, and a Sustainability Award.  These prizes will be decided by the judging panel and awarded by the Latrobe City Council Mayor.
  9. A minimum number of entries must be received in each category for judging to proceed.  If a category does not proceed to judging, entrants will be contacted and provided the opportunity to enter another category.
  10. A representative of Latrobe City Council will arrange a time to take photographs to clearly portray each garden.  These photographs will form part of the judging process.  These photographs become the property of Latrobe City Council and will not be returned to the entrant.
  11. Entrants agree to allow their gardens to be photographed by a person nominated by Latrobe City Council for judging and publicity purposes.  Photographs remain the property of Latrobe City and may be reproduced in Latrobe City Council promotional material to be used by Council at its discretion. 
  12. Entrants shortlisted in any category have the option of allowing the public to view their garden in an open day event to be determined.
  13. Sponsors, Councilors, council staff and their immediate household members are not eligible to enter this competition.
  14. Winners will be required to submit valid identification before receiving their prize.
  15. Prizes will be awarded at an event in November 2017 following completion of the judging process.
  16. Latrobe City Council will not be liable for any failure of receipt of entries, including technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind or lost or unavailable network connections which may limit or prohibit an eligible entrant’s ability to participate in the competition.  Latrobe City takes no responsibility for any entries that are lost, delayed, illegible, corrupted, damaged, incomplete or otherwise invalid.
  17. Latrobe City Council reserves the right at any time to cancel, modify or suspend the competition (including altering prizes) if, in its sole discretion, a competition is not capable of being conducted as specified.  Latrobe City Council reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value in the event that circumstances beyond their control make this unavoidable.
  18. Latrobe City Council, nor the parties involved, will accept any responsibility or will be liable for any injury, loss or damage to an entrant’s property as a result of participation in the competition
  19. If a garden wins in any category over two consecutive years, the entrant is precluded from re-entering the competition for two years.  The owner of any garden winning two years in a row may be provided with the opportunity to be a community representative judge the following year.
  20. Personal information collected from you is held and used by Council under the provisions of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.  The supply of information is voluntary, however if you cannot provide, or do not wish to provide the information sought, Council may be unable to process your application or request, or consider your submission.
