Garden Competition Conditions of Entry

Entry to the Latrobe City Garden Competition is free, and applicants should choose the category they feel best suits their garden. All gardens must be located within the Latrobe City municipality.

  1. By entering the Latrobe City Garden Competition entrants agree to abide by the Conditions of Entry which include:
    • Names, area address and photographs of the entrant/s and their gardens being used for associated promotion and publicity.
  2. Applicants may choose to agree to;
    • The publishing of their address so that members of the public may view the garden from the street. (optional)
    • Having their contact details on a register so that other entrants can arrange a mutually convenient time to view their garden (optional).\
  3. Final judging will be carried out by a panel of judges appointed by Latrobe City Council.
  4. Competition timelines:
    • Entries open Saturday 1 September 2018
    • Entries close Sunday 28 October 2018
    • Judging occurs in November 2018
  5. All prizes are awarded at the discretion of the judging panel, whose decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  6. At the judges’ discretion, entries may be judged in categories other than the one entered.
  7. All entrants are automatically in the running for the Mayor’s Award for the best overall garden, or the Mayor’s Encouragement Award.  These prizes will be decided by the judging panel and awarded by the Latrobe City Council Mayor.
  8. A minimum number of entries must be received in each Garden Competition category for judging to proceed.  If a category does not proceed to judging, entrants will be contacted and provided the opportunity to enter another category.
  9. If an entrant is unable to submit photos, they must contact Latrobe City Council by Friday 19 October, and a Council representative will take photos of the garden and submit these with the resident’s entry. These photographs will form part of the judging process.  These photographs become the property of Latrobe City Council and will not be returned to the entrant.
  10. Photographs of a child, 14 years or under will not be taken or used for publicity or promotion purposes unless prior written parental/guardian permission is provided.
  11. Entrants agree to allow their gardens to be photographed by a person nominated by Latrobe City Council for judging and publicity purposes.  Photographs remain the property of Latrobe City and may be reproduced in Latrobe City Council promotional material to be used by Council at its discretion. 
  12. Sponsors, Councillors, council staff and their immediate household members are not eligible to enter this competition.
  13. Winners may be required to submit valid identification before receiving their prize.
  14. Prizes will be awarded at an event in November 2018 following completion of the judging process.
  15. Latrobe City Council will not be liable for any failure of receipt of entries, including technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind or lost or unavailable network connections which may limit or prohibit an eligible entrant’s ability to participate in the competition.  Latrobe City takes no responsibility for any entries that are lost, delayed, illegible, corrupted, damaged, incomplete or otherwise invalid.
  16. Latrobe City Council reserves the right at any time to cancel, modify or suspend the competition (including altering prizes) if, in its sole discretion, a competition is not capable of being conducted as specified.  Latrobe City Council reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value in the event that circumstances beyond their control make this unavoidable.
  17. Latrobe City Council, nor the parties involved, will accept any responsibility or will be liable for any injury, loss or damage to an entrant’s property as a result of participation in the competition
  18. If a garden wins in any category over two consecutive years, the entrant is precluded from re-entering the competition for two years. 
  19. The personal information requested on the entry form is being collected by Council for the purpose of the Latrobe City Garden Competition 2018.  The personal information will be used solely by Council for that primary purpose or directly related purposes.  Council will disclose this information to the Competition judges and sponsors for the purposes of judging the competition entries and awarding of prizes.  
  20. If you choose not to provide this information, then we will be unable to process your application. The applicant understands that the personal information provided is for the reasons outlined above and that they may apply to Council for access to and/or amendment of the information.  Requests for access and/or correction should be made to the Privacy Officer at Latrobe City Council on 1300 367 700.
