Australia Day Nominations

Nominations are now open to the 2018 Australia Day Award. The Latrobe City Council Australia Day Awards pay tribute to local individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the community. Any individual or organisation can make a nomination and all eligible nominees are acknowledged. Latrobe City Council administers the Australia Day Awards on behalf of the National Australia Day Council of Victoria. 

Awards Ceremony

The Awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held at Kernot Hall, Morwell on Friday 26 January, 2018.

Nominations Close

All nominations for the 2018 awards must be received by 5.00 pm Tuesday 10 October 2017.

Criteria

Citizen of the Year

Latrobe City Council’s Citizen of the Year recipients are people who have demonstrated through their hard work and dedication that they:

  • provide a significant contribution to the community in the current year or over a number of years;
  • demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and /or are a role model for their community members or organisations; or
  • excel in one of the areas of; arts or culture, sport and recreation, business, the environment or community service.

Young Citizen of the Year

Latrobe City Council’s Young Citizen of the year recipient is someone who must be 25 years of age or under, on 26 January 2018 and;

  • demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and /or are a role model for their community members or organisations; or
  • has either made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or has given outstanding service for the local community over a number of years.

Community Event of the Year

Latrobe City Community Event of the Year:

  • recognises a person or group which has staged a noteworthy community event within the municipality during the past year; and
  • must demonstrate that they are a community event and not for profit making venture.

Community Service of the Year

Latrobe City’s Community Service Award is awarded to individuals or a not-for-profit community group who:

  • have demonstrated that they have performed outstanding community service to the local community, either during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years;
  • have demonstrated that they meet a community need or priority and have provided exceptional service to the community; and
  • operates within the municipality.

Conditions of Entry

  • Nominations must be on the official form (one nomination per form)
  • All nominations must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 10 October 2017.
  • The name of at least one referee must be supplied; this person may be contacted if the nominee is short listed.
  • All nomination information and material submitted remains the property of Latrobe City Council.
  • The decision of the Latrobe City Council in relation to the awards is final and no correspondence will be entered into in respect of the decision.
  • Additional information which supports the nominations can be attached to the form.
  • Forms available at all Latrobe City Service Centres.
