The Reference Collection includes works such as dictionaries, encyclopaedias, yearbooks, atlases, directories, car manuals and copies of Choice magazine.
Copies of all Local History items will also be found in the Reference Collection. This collection is available for use in any branch of the Library Service. Items in this collection are not available for loan. Ask a library staff member if you need assistance to locate or use these resources.
Notice boards and display cases are available at some branch libraries to promote local events and non-profit community services.
The Yallourn public Library ceased operation in October 1980. At the time of closure, 2500 items were donated to the Latrobe City Library for permanent retention.
These books, all published prior to 1980, form the Ex-Yallourn special collection. The collection includes the following subject areas :
- Art
- Theatre, drama and ballet
- Australian literature
- Australian biography
- Australian Aborigines

The Latrobe City Library's collection of motor car repair manuals is only available for reference use in the Branch Libraries. They are not available for loan.
The collection is shelved in Moe, Morwell, and Traralgon branches, but items will be forwarded on request to any branch.
The Library has a collection of Talking Books available for loan. These are available on Compact Disk (CD), MP3 and Audiocassette
Vision Australia has an extensive library of resources for people with low vision or blindness or for people with physical disabilities which limit their ability to read. For further information contact Vision Australia on 1300 847 466.
Talking Latrobe Valley Express
In collaboration with the Library and the Latrobe Valley Express, Vision Australia also offers a talking newspaper service.
Each week over 60 copies of the Talking Latrobe Valley Express are distributed throughout the Latrobe Valley, and to other areas of Victoria and interstate.
