Declaration of Boating Activity Exemption (Lake Narracan)

Latrobe City Council as the declared waterway manager for Lake Narracan, makes the following declaration under section 203(3) of the Marine Safety Act 2010.

For the purpose of conducting the Latrobe Valley Water Ski Club events on Lake Narracan between 7 am and 7 pm on 19 to 21 January, 23 to 25 February and 02 to 04 March 2018, participants are exempt as follows:

  • Masters of participating vessels are exempt from the requirement to operate a vessel at a speed not exceeding 5 knots within 50 metres of the waters’ edge, as detailed in Clause 3(a) of the Notice under section 15(2) of the Marine Act 1988 (Vic);

Masters and competitors during trick skiing events only:

  • Skiers involved in the trick skiing events are exempt from the requirement to wear a PFD whilst being towed as detailed in regulation 103 of the Marine Safety Regulations 2012; and
  • Masters of competition vessels during the trick skiing events are exempt from the requirement to not tow a person unless the person is wearing a PFD as detailed in regulation 104(2) of the Marine Safety Regulations 2012.

EXEMPTION CONDITIONS

  • Masters of participating vessels are exempt from item 1 above during the event.
  • Competing skiers are only exempt from item 2 above during trick skiing events.
  • Masters of competition vessels are exempt from item 3 above whilst towing a trick skier.
  • The exemptions apply only to persons participating in the Latrobe Valley Water Ski Club events for the times and days detailed above at Lake Narracan on the waters of Halls Bay, provided that occupants of all powered vessels are wearing a PFD and that the stated safety controls and undertakings detailed in the Event Application and associated documentation are adhered to.
