Melbourne City Ballet is bringing its newest season, a magical, neoclassical ballet interpretation of the William Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon on Saturday 12 August at 3pm.

Latrobe City Council’s coordinator performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts, said the adaption was suitable to new and more sophisticated ballet audiences.

“With a number of dance schools and Eisteddfods in Latrobe City, we know that there is an appetite for classical performances like this. We’re pleased to be able to provide access to quality ballet right on our doorstep, not only to inspire and delight our young dancers but to satisfy the cultural demands of our wider audiences.

“This version sees three different stories within the border of Athens and Fairyland. Whilst the Amazonian Queen and Athenian King prepare for their wedding, two Athenian couples are caught in an arranged marriage dilemma which is only made worse by the feud of the King and Queen of the Fairies.

“With a full cast of talented artists, dazzling costumes and beautiful sets, Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo, will take audiences on a journey to experience the magic, mischief and love that is A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Ms Roberts said.
