The program for this year’s Latrobe City Seniors Festival, which runs from 8 to 14 October, is packed with music and film, leisure, arts and crafts. And this year, Latrobe City Council is also running a Seniors Expo with activities and the opportunity to meet with service providers. The Expo takes place on Tuesday 16 October at Kernot Hall from 10am to 2pm.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White OAM, said the Latrobe City Senior of the Year would be announced at the free Seniors Concert to be held on Wednesday 10 October at Kernot Hall.

“This year, the concert features Honey B and The Stingers, who will entertain the crowd with classic hits from the 50s and 60s. It’s always a great atmosphere.

“We will present the winner of the Latrobe City Senior of the Year award at 10.30am, just before the show starts. Being able to acknowledge the contribution to our community of our senior citizens is a highlight. We have a very dedicated community of volunteers, many of whom are seniors. This award is a gesture of our appreciation of their commitment,” Cr White said.

The program also features a mystery bus tour, an op shop tour and a chance to see the Australian musical movie Muriel’s Wedding at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre.

“Many of the events are free or low cost and transport is provided for some of the activities. Book early to make sure you can take part in your favourite activity,” Cr White said.

On Tuesday 16 October from 10am to 2pm at Kernot Hall, Latrobe City Council is organising a Seniors Expo.

“This event will offer a host of activities and musical entertainment for attendees, but more importantly, it will be an opportunity for older residents to access advice and information about a number of services. Stallholders will include Centrelink, Latrobe Health Assembly, Victoria Police, community safety network and Hearing Australia, plus many more.

“Having a chance to browse stalls and chat with representatives from an assortment of agencies, organisations and companies in one place, we hope will be an attractive proposition for our senior citizens. The Expo is also free entry,” Cr White concluded.
