Latrobe City Council is calling for the community to nominate citizens, events and services for its 2019 Australia Day Awards. Nominations across all categories close on 10 October.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White OAM, said the awards recognised volunteerism, inclusion, service and collaboration.

“Latrobe City’s Australia Day Awards honour people, events and services in Latrobe City that really set the bar high when it comes to demonstrating the breadth of community spirit in our midst. We all know that special someone, a friend, a neighbour, a family member, who goes that extra mile to make a difference to the lives of others. We’ve all attended a community event put on by the volunteers from a local community group.

“Take a few minutes to complete a nomination form so that person or team of people can be acknowledged,” Cr White said.

“There are a number of categories: Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and Community Service of the Year. We want to recognise the individuals – of any age – and the groups of people who work together on activities and events, or deliver valuable services in our community.

“Applications for all categories close on 10 October, so there’s still time to think about the people or community-focused organisations you know who might deserve a nomination.

Forms are available online at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/australiaday or hard copies can be requested at our service centres and libraries.

These Awards, along with inductees to the Sporting Hall of Fame, will be presented during a gala event at Kernot Hall, Morwell on Saturday 26 January 2019.
