Construction begins today on the long-awaited Monash and W.H Corrigan Reserves re-development which will provide users with a new modern mulit-use pavilion accompanied by 10 newly reconstructed courts with state of the art LED technology lighting. Mayor Graeme Middlemiss was joined by Federal Member for Monash Mr Russell Broadbent, Member for Eastern Victoria Ms Harriet Shing along with West Ward Councillors Sharon Gibson and Brad Law in turning the sod to mark the start of construction.

With the turning of the first sod the future of sports participation and recreation in Latrobe City looks brighter as the Monash and W.H Corrigan Reserves re-development creates a multi-sport complex that will have ongoing positive effects for the wider community. The redevelopment will provide the user groups with much better infrastructure to participate in their respective sports regardless of age, gender or abilities. The improvements to the Monash and W.H Corrigan Reserves demonstrate Latrobe City’s ongoing commitment to building an active liveable Regional City.

The Monash and W.H Corrigan Reserves re-development will cost almost $4 million and is co-funded with the Federal ($800,000) and State ($3,000,000) Governments. Local contractors LANGDEN Constructions and Ace Earthmoving have been awarded the contract for the pavilion and court construction. The use of local contractors and sub-contractors will provide a benefit to the local regional economy and community through local employment.

The scheduled completion of the Monash and W.H Corrigan Reserves re-development is December 2019/Early 2020. Once complete the Monash and W.H Corrigan Reserves will be the new home of Moe and District Netball Association which will share the new facilities with Newborough Tennis Club and the Adrenalin Paintball Club.

“The re-development of the Monash and W.H Corrigan Reserves has been in the works for a number of years and we are greatly appreciative of the Federal and State governments coming together to fund this multi-sport hub which will benefit the Newborough/Moe area and Latrobe City” – Mayor Cr Graeme Middlemiss
