Gallery to temporarily close for urgent maintenance

The Latrobe Regional Gallery will be closed for maintenance from Monday 7 May to Friday 11 May.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said the Gallery would be closed for maintenance to the climate control system.

“The maintenance is focused on the replacement of the chiller. The climate control system maintains both temperature and humidity within the gallery, keeping the interior to within international standards for artwork conservation.

“These standards are recognised as providing the optimum conditions for the preservation of any artwork or artefact, no matter what it is made out of. Latrobe Regional Gallery is responsible for the care and preservation of a diverse variety of artworks, objects and artefacts, some of which are irreplaceable,” Cr White said.

“While the Gallery is currently meeting required standards for climate conditions, the planned maintenance will ensure that the gallery can continue to provide the best level of care for the artworks within the building, preserving them for generations to come.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward welcoming visitors when the Gallery reopens as normal on Saturday 12 May,” Cr White concluded.

So Swish café will be operate its usual opening hours during the maintenance period, but will not open until 12noon on Tuesday 8 May.
