Emergency Relief Centre in Morwell

Posted on 10 January 2020

Due to the declining need of East Gippsland residents affected by the bushfire disaster, Latrobe City Council advise that the Emergency Relief Centre in Morwell will close today, Friday 10 January at 6pm.

If you are an East Gippsland resident and require assistance, the Department of Human Service (DHHS) are located in Bairnsdale and are ready to service and answer your queries.

DHHS have opened a Personal Hardship Assistance Program (PHAP) hotline to support all those affected by the Eastern Victoria bushfires. This PHAP hotline is available seven days a week between 9am and 5pm. For more information, please see https://go.vic.gov.au/Vr4MUV or call 1800 961 054.

Please be advised that the Sale Baptist Relief Centre, operated by the Wellington Shire Council has also closed.

Over the week of operation, 350 members of the fire effected East Gippsland communities have sort support at the Emergency Relief Centre.

A vote of thanks to emergency service and service agencies Victoria Police, Red Cross, DHHS, Country Women’s Association (CWA), Save the Children, Salivation Army, Victorian Council of Churches Emergency Ministries, Heart Focus and other local counselling support services for your assistance during the operation of the Latrobe City Emergency Relief Centre.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our very generous local businesses and community members for their offers of support.

We remind the community that Latrobe City cannot accept donations of any kind.  Financial donations can be made to various designated appeals, including the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) and the Victorian Government Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
