Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White said that the no charge weekends were designed to allow residents more options when disposing of waste.
"Residents with items such as household furniture, bed frames, mattresses, white goods, old TV's, stereos or computers can take these items along to any one of our transfer stations in Moe, Morwell, Traralgon and Yinnar between 8am and 5pm on both days.
"These weekends are part of a series of waste disposal weekends held over the year to encourage residents to dispose of waste responsibly. In addition to this hard waste weekend, Council offers two no charge green waste weekends a year, plus an at call' hard waste service.
"To avoid long delays, especially at our Traralgon and Moe transfer stations, residents are advised to arrive with their loads early, to be sorted and stacked into recyclables and waste which will assist the attendants and minimise your time disposing of these material and be as patient as possible," Cr White said.
Latrobe City's manager built and natural sustainability, Deirdre Griepsma, said that the list of items accepted over the hard waste weekend was fairly comprehensive.
"A full list is available on our website. However, we would encourage residents wishing to dispose of paint, oil, barbeque gas bottles, car batteries, household batteries and fluorescent tubes to use the Detox your home collection point', located within the Morwell Transfer Station.
"Residents should also note that asbestos and household chemicals such as chlorine and pool chemicals, solvents, poisons, pesticides and herbicides will not be accepted. Tyres and concrete or rubble will be charged at the standard fee for disposal," Ms Griepsma said.
A full list of acceptable and non acceptable hard waste material is available at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au.
