Community Arts Projects

From time to time Latrobe City Council engages the community in major arts projects to enhance social connection and well-being through creative activities.

In recent months, the Dance with me project has seen over 2,000 people of all ages and from all walks of life learn the Latrobe Valley Dance through workshops and community events.

Dance with me is about bringing the Latrobe Valley community together to get moving, have a laugh and show each other why we love the Valley.

VicHealth is supporting the project through its MOTION program because getting physically active and involved in the arts is a great way for people to have fun, learn something new and make friends – which helps everyone feel happier and healthier.

Dance with me Dance and Drum Circle at Moe

On Friday 12 April people stopped to enjoy the sunshine on Moore Street, Moe along with a bit of drumming. Not what you would normally expect to see but the Dance with me team and master drummer Steve Schulz got the people of Moe drumming up a storm.  Some were even persuaded to do the Latrobe Valley Dance!  The impromptu event was watched by passers by, shoppers and drivers – it was hard not to spot a foot tapping or a head bobbing.  A fun time was had by everyone; as one Moe senior put it “It’s made my day!”.  Dance with me will be out again next Friday in Morwell at noon, next to the Bus Terminal.
